Cansford Labs Supports Dementia Friends
Cansford Laboratories is a supporter of Dementia Friends, an initiative set-up by the Alzheimer’s Society.
We understand that dementia can affect anyone, at any age and that as a business on the front line, our work brings us into contact with people who may have various types of dementia.
Supporting donors who may have dementia
We work with some of the most vulnerable people in our society, namely families and children. By signing up to be a Dementia Friend, we are able to play a small part in supporting people with dementia, at what can be a very stressful and difficult time in their lives when they need to have a drug and/or alcohol test.
It is important to us as a trusted and well-respected company that when we undertake collection of a drug and alcohol sample, the particular special needs and requirements of the person (donor) having the collection is considered, especially if they have Dementia. Cansford has a variety of dementia-friendly processes and materials in place which makes undergoing a drug and alcohol test as stress-free and smooth as possible for each individual donor.

About Dementia Friends programme
Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition and the small way in which companies like Cansford and individuals can help.
Cansford and being a Dementia Friend
What is a Dementia Friend? A Dementia Friend is somebody (whether an individual or an organisation) which learns about dementia to help their community and the people they come into contact with, whether in big or small ways.
According the Alzheimer’s Society, too many people affected by dementia feel that society fails to understand the condition they live with. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want and are supported.
“Cansford’s biggest strengths? The staff they have working for them, definitely. They’re all very helpful. The efficiency of arranging appointments, and there’s the timeframe for results coming back.”
